The Searchers . J. Ford. 1956.

Western. VHS. 119 minutes. (J. H. John Wayne, Vera Miles, Ward Bond, Natalie Wood.)

Filmed in "John Ford Country"(awe-inspiring Monument Valley ), The Searchers brilliantly incorporates the Western's traditional elements. But the film is best remembered for two untraditional elements: a potent antiracism theme. And Wayne ' multilayered, profound performance in a role so important to him he named one of his sons after the tough, determined loner character of Ethan Edwards. (source: tape case copy)
