Once Were Warriors . R. Brown, A. Duff. 1995.

Drama. VHS. 102 minutes. (Rena Owen, Temuera Morrison, Mamaengaroa Kerr-Bell.)

Once Were Warriors is a powerfully raw and deeply affecting film about one woman's desperate struggle to keep her family together. Rena Owen stars as Beth Heke, a mother who will do anything to protect her children. Temuera Morrison is Jake Heke, her husband, a brute of a man whose hard-drinking ways and volatile personality threaten to tear the family apart. Together, this mismatched couple is trapped in a world of violence and brutality, until a horrible tragedy forces Beth to look into her past and find the strength to fight for her family's future.
