Billy Jack Goes to Washington . T. Laughlin. 1977.
Drama. VHS. 155 minutes. (D. T. Tom Laughlin, E.G. Marshall .)
This is an odd choice of premises for a Billy Jack sequel. Billy Jack is pardoned by his governor and appointed to a vacant U.S. Senate seat as a political maneuver by the governor to win the youth and minority vote. Once there he finds the Senate corrupt beyond repair and tries to stir things up. It's an interesting film but doesn't quite have the same charm, or effect, that Billy Jack and The Trial of Billy Jack did. It's your basic political "mad as hell and not going to take it anymore" comedy-drama, and looks like a throwback to those Frank Capra films -- in fact Frank Capra Jr. was involved in making this movie. For the fans of the earlier films, there is one obligatory karate sequence thrown in, after all it wouldn't be a Billy Jack film be without one, but most of Laughlin's screen time here is in a suit and tie.
