AISP In Action

The AISP coordinates programming and special events at Michigan State University with several other campus organizations like the Wordcraft Circle of Native Writers and Storytellers, NAIFSA (North American Indigenous Faculty and Staff Association, EAGLE (American Indian Faculty and Staff Association), NAI (Native American Institute), Aanii (the American Indian student support program), NAISO (North American Indigenous Student Organization), AISES (American Indian Science and Engineering Society), and other related Tribal organizations in the Capitol area community. Below are pictures from various events and speakers over the past several years.

Michigan Indian Day 2007

Over 200 people attended Michigan Indian Day 2007! Keynote speakers were:

Priscilla A. Day, MSW, Ed. D. (Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe): What does it take to raise healthy American Indian (Anishinaabe) children?

and Don Day, Ed. D., (Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe), President, Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College: Do Mascots Really Impact American Indian People?

Dr. Gary Anderson, Director of the School of Social Work, was among those to welcome attendees to Michigan Indian Day.

A variety of sessions were offered throughout the day, including a discussion by current Anishinaabe Social Work students, about their placements with the Saginaw Chippewa tribe.

During the lunch hour, door prizes donated by various tribes, MSU programs, and local businesses were given away to attendees.

The day was concluded with a dance exhibition and drumming by Little Stone Drummers, followed by a give-away.
